Revealed! Soldiers Withdrew From Check-Point Hours Before Yobe School Attack,Trade Union Demand Probe

As the nation mourns the recent Boko haram attack in Yobe which has claimed many young lives, Nasir el rufai reposted an article from a news site suggesting that the Nigerian army mysteriously withdrew from their position near the area a couple of hours before the attack.

The article quotes Yobe State governor Ibrahim Gaidam as the one revealing these allegations, It goes:

The governor of Yobe State, Ibrahim Gaidam has disclosed that Soldiers guarding a checkpoint near the Federal government College Buni Yadi, were gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram members laid siege in the early hours of Tuesday were mysteriously withdrawn hours before the attack.

The governor who spoke through his spokesman, Abdullahi Bego said survivors and community leaders told Gov. Ibrahim Gaidam when he visited the now-deserted and destroyed secondary school 70 kilometers south of the state capital, Damaturu.

“The community complained to the governor that yesterday the military were withdrawn and then the attack happened,” he said.

Despite the fact that the nearest military base was a unit of about 30 soldiers in Buni Gari town, 2 kilometers away from the school, the community leaders of Buni Yadi said soldiers from Damaturu did not arrive until noon, hours after the attackers had finished their work and taken off.

According Bego, the community leaders said they buried the bodies of 29 victims. Most appeared to be between 15 and 20 years old.

However, The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, an affiliate of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, on Wednesday urged the Federal Government to investigate the murder of 59 students of Federal Government College, Buni Yadi in Yobe State by suspected members of the Boko Haram Islamic sect.

The body asked the government to probe the report by a foreign media organisation that security details deployed in the school were withdrawn shortly before the attack.

While insisting that the group had a different agenda not known to the majority of Nigerians, the association appealed to the sect to sheathe their swords and embrace peace.

A statement issued on Wednesday by the Secretary-General of ASCSN, Mr. Alade Lawal, expressed shock that the insurgents invaded FGC Buni Yadi, Yobe State in the early hours of Tuesday, February 25, 2014 and murdered 59 innocent students and several others in cold blood.

He said, “This dastardly act has sent shock waves to every nook and cranny of the country and to other parts of the world as there is noting that can explain this wanton destruction of lives of defenceless students.

“It is inhuman for the Boko Haram militants to have raided the school premises at 200am when the students were asleep and set their hostels ablaze while those who tried to escape were gunned down or caught and had their throats slashed.”

The ASCSN urged the Federal Government to “set up a high-powered inquiry into the circumstances that led to the mass murder of the students in order to clear the allegation by a popular foreign television station which has told the world that security details posted to keep surveillance on the school were withdrawn shortly before the attack.”

According to Lawal, Nigerians cannot understand the type of grievance that will drive the so-called religious bigots to indulge in such a bloodletting.

“The Boko Haram sect surely has a different agenda not known to the majority of Nigerians. We are even wondering whether they are real Nigerians or outsiders hired by special interest group, to unleash terror on law-abiding citizens of this country for selfish reasons,” the association stated.

The ASCSN recalled that in September 2013, the Boko Haram insurgents attacked the Agriculture Training College Gujba also in Yobe State in a similar fashion and killed more than 40 students in their sleep.

Lawal said, “This is definitely not the time to politicise the issue of security. Every Nigerian must rise up to face the threat posed by Boko Haram insurgents. We must face them squarely and flush them out of the system before they do collateral damage to the corporate existence of the country.”

But the Nigerian Army on Wednesday debunked media reports that a military checkpoint was withdrawn from the vicinity of the college, 24 hours before the gruesome killing of 43 students of the institution.

The Director of Defence Information, Maj. Gen Chris Olukolade, said that the military had never stationed a permanent checkpoint near the Federal Government College.

Olukolade said that the military deployed some soldiers in Buni Gari to strengthen the offensive against some newly discovered locations of the insurgents in the area.

The Defence spokesman also said that the soldiers location at Buni Gari was about seven kilometers from Buna Yadi where the attack took place.

He said, “There was never a permanent check point near the Federal Government College.

“Rather, it was the soldiers in Buni Gari, about seven kilometres ahead of Buni Yadi town, who were recently reassigned to beef up the offensive action.”

He said that even though the method adopted by the insurgents was new, troops were in their trail.

He said security forces would ensure that those behind the killings were apprehended and steps taken to prevent a repetition.

One of the survivors spoke thus

14-year-old Ibrahim Musa Lampo, a JSS 2 student of Federal Government College, FGC, Bunu Yadi, Yobe State who was one of the lucky survivors of the Boko Haram massacre on Tuesday, which claimed the lives of 43 students. The insurgents also burnt the hostels, classrooms and more than 40 houses during the attack.

I was shot on my left leg, while I was sleeping. When I woke up, I could not walk and was later taken to the girls hostel where the insurgents gathered us with the female students. They selected some of the female students and went away with them, while they left some of us groaning in pain from gun shot”.
Ibrahim’s father, Mallam Musa Lampo, an immigration officer was still in shock over the incident and simply said: “I have committed everything into the hands of God.
