Soldiers are on a rampage along Ikorodu Road in Lagos destroying BRT buses, residents have said. According to report, one of the BRT buses that rides on a dedicated lane hit a soldier, and his fellow soldiers decided to take the law into their hands.
The soldiers’ actions was said to be caused by a BRT bus that allegedly run a soldier over at the Palmgrove bus stop killing him.
While details of what happened are still sketchy as at the time of this report,an eye witnesses who spoke with HITZ said that a soldier riding a bike on the designated lane of the BRT was knocked down and crushed by the driver of the BRT. The driver took to his heels after the incident. When the accident was reported to his colleagues, they poured into Ikorodu road seizing BRT buses on sight. At the last count, over five buses were set on fire while dozens were destroyed.
The incident caused bottlenecks at the ever busy Ikorodu..Palmgroove area where the incident happened was turned into a theatre of war as the soldiers were beating and harassing everyone on sight including journalists.. They were still on the road as at the time of filing in this report
This is not the first time such incident is happening in a Lagos as security agents always ignore the ban on vehicles and bikes plying the BRT lane. Governor Babatunde Fashola some years back physically confronted an Army Colonel at the Marina for flaunting this directive.
