POPE AUTHORIZE FORGIVENESS OF ABORTION IN CATHOLIC CHURCHES

A shocking announcement made by Pope Francis shook d whole world on Tuesday evening. He has opened the door for women who have had abortions – an act considered a grave sin by the Catholic church – to be absolved if they express contrition and seek forgiveness from their priest. “The forgiveness of God cannot be denied to one who has repented,” the pontiff wrote in an extraordinary letter that was released by the Vatican on Tuesday. “I am well aware of the pressure that has led them to this decision. I know that it is an existential and moral ordeal,” he added. The order, which temporarily allows all priests to grant forgiveness to women who have elected to have an abortion and profoundly regret the procedure, is part of the church’s jubilee year of mercy, which begins on 8 December and runs until 20 November 2016. 40 YEAR OLD MAN RAPES 4 YEAR OLD GIRL TO DEATH

Pedophiles is becoming too much in Bayelsa State according to a revelation given from a child protection agency to the officials of the United Nations Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and other stakeholders in cases of child abuses, including the rape and death of a four-year-old girl at the hands of a 40-year-old man in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area (LGA). LIFELESS BODY OF A 65 YEARS OLD MAN FOUND IN A WELL, 5 HOUR AFTER HE WENT MISSING

Mr Dele Ogundeyi's lifeless body, was on Saturday recovered from a well on the Aperan Way in Omu-Aran, Kwara. The deceased who hailed from Ile-Nla compound in Omu-Aran, went missing around 11 a.m. on Saturday. It was reports that the 65 years old man was a retired Secretary of Offa Local Government Area Liaison Office, before his death. A search party was later arranged by a  relation, whose name is Abdulkareem. Mr Abdulkareem said that the deceased, was later traced by the search party to a site along Aperan Way where his lifeless body was found inside the well around 4 p.m. that same day. Abdulkareem said the well was located in front of an uncompleted building and a farm land belonging to the deceased. However, how the deceased got inside the well is not known by anybody. NUC RELEASES FULL LIST OF ILLEGAL TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS

The National Universities Commission has released a list of illegal degree awarding institutions operating in Nigeria. The schools were published in the NUC’s weekly bulletin dated August 24. According to the bulletin, the NUC Executive secretary, Julius Okojie, warned that those who patronise the schools, do so at their own risk. “Certificates obtained from these sources will not be recognized for the purpose of NYSC, employment and further studies,” the NUC said. CHIBOK GIRLS: STILL MISSING, AFTER 500 DAYS

April 14 into 15 2014, 276 female students were kidnapped from the Government Secondary School in Chibok town, Borno State, Nigeria. BOAT MISHAP CLAIMS 14 LIVES INCLUDING WOMEN IN NIGER STATE

Fourteen persons, including 11 women from the same family, in Dan Gunu village, have perished in a boat mishap in River Sarkin Pawa, Niger State. Another boat, involving three persons, also suffered the same fate in River Guni, both in Munya Local Government Area of the state. An eyewitness told Vanguard that the villagers were returning from farm, Monday evening, when the incident occurred.   The women and two men, it was gathered, had gone to the farm to harvest groundnut. The incident occurred on their return journey. The only survivors were the two men. As villagers at Dan-Gunu village mourned the death of their beloved ones, reports of the River Guni incident, which claimed three lives, filtered in. TANKER FIRE LEVELS DOWN VEHICLES AT MIDNIGHT

four commercial buses have been leveled to the ground after a tanker fell and caught fire behind the Awolowo Market, in the Olosha, Mushin area of Lagos. The tanker, which was conveying 33,000 litres of petrol, spilled its contents into the drainage channels in the area, spreading the fire. Report was gathered that the fire, which began at about 12am on Tuesday, was put out by men of the Lagos State Fire Service from the Ilupeju, Isolo and Alausa stations. Although nobody died, but four commercial buses parked by the roadside were destroyed in the large fire. A resident of the area said the bad portion of the road caused the tanker to fall, leading to the fire. He said, “The fuel spilled into the drains and the fire started trailing it. MAN TELLS COURT , I BEAT MY WIFE FOR REFUSING SEX

A 40-year-old man, Salau Kehinde, has told a Customary Court in Ikorodu, Lagos, that he physically abused his wife, Shakirat, 32, whenever she refuses to have sex with him, but that he had no intention of bathing her in hot water. Shakirat had approached the court seeking for dissolution of their 10-year old marriage, blessed with two children. According to her, “he would beat me whenever I returned from work. He would beat me when I told him I was too tired to have sex, or for any flimsy excuse.
