four commercial buses have been
leveled to the ground after a tanker fell and caught fire behind the
Awolowo Market, in the Olosha, Mushin area of Lagos.
The tanker, which was conveying
33,000 litres of petrol, spilled its contents into the drainage channels
in the area, spreading the fire.
Report was gathered that the
fire, which began at about 12am on Tuesday, was put out by men of the
Lagos State Fire Service from the Ilupeju, Isolo and Alausa stations.
Although nobody died, but four commercial buses parked by the roadside were destroyed in the large fire.
A resident of the area said the bad portion of the road caused the tanker to fall, leading to the fire.
He said, “The fuel spilled into the drains and the fire started trailing it. But the firefighters managed to put out the fire.
“Everybody in the neighbourhood woke up and called for help. I suspect that the tanker fell as a result of the bad road.”
The Director of the service, Dr.
Rasak Fadipe, said the damage done by the fire was minimised by the
timely response of firefighters.
He said, “Our men responded
promptly and the damage was minismised. There was no loss of life, and
no one was injured. Our men from the Ilupeju, Isolo and Alausa stations
responded and put out the fire. Only three commercial buses were
affected.”
