Egypt Jails Prominent Blogger And Activist

A prominent blogger and pro-democracy activist, Alaa Abdel Fattah, has been jailed by an Egyptian Court for five years after his retrial for violating protest law on Monday.

He was previously given a 15-year jail term in the case over his alleged role in a 2013 protest.
The activist came into the limelight and gained fame during the 2011 uprising as a campaigner against military trials for civilians.

Al-Jazeera journalists Mohamed Fahmy and Baher Mohamed also appeared in the same court on Monday for their retrial.

The retrial was however adjourned to March 8 after a brief hearing.
