APC Crises: Femi Gbajabiamila Emerges House of Rep Majority Leader, Godswill Akpabio Named Senate Minority Leader
The House of Representatives has named Femi Gbajabiamila as the majority leader.
This is the fallout of the meeting held yesterday between the president and members of the House of Representatives.
Similarly Buba Jibrin was named the deputy leader. The chief whip slot was handed to Ado Doguwa and Pally Iriase was named deputy whip.
In another development, Godswill Akpabio, a former governor of Akwa Ibom state and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senator representing Akwa Ibom northwest has been named the new minority leader.
Being a first time senator, Akpabio normally should not be considered for the position as the standing rules of the Senate gives priority to ranking senators.
However, efforts to block Akpabio’s ascension to the post failed last Wednesday as Justice Gabriel Kolawole of the federal high court, Abuja, rejected an application seeking to stop the Senate president from naming Akpabio as minority leader.
The current senate had earlier set another trend when for the first time, the majority party failed to produce the deputy senate president as the PDP’s Ike Ekweremadu clinched that position.
