WAEC SET TO CANCEL COMPUTER BASED TEST (CBT), OFFICIAL

At an interactive forum  with education correspondents on Thursday night, Mr Charlse Eguridu made a clarification on the Computer Based Test that was introduced on the 26th of March 2015, saying The West African Education Council is not considering adopting that mode for it's Examinations.

He said, it will amount to 'intellectual dishonesty' to say that the council will introduce CBT in the next five years or in the nearest future.

He also added that the purpose of education is to prepare people for life , not to pass examinations; hence the need to examine different domains which CBT cannot accommodate.

He talked about the three different domains that can help people to succeed during examinations, which are:

cognitive domain (What you have learn and put in your head)

Affective domain (Which has to do with your emotions)

Psycho motor domain ( Skills which you can express using your hands and your body)

He also added that he is yet to see any education expert who can measure the psycho motor domain using CBT. He said any test that will use computer to evaluate who will be a good carpenter cannot be valid.

The WAEC Official also said that even in Netherland where people emulate CBT, they ave not been able to migrate 40percent.

He added
" How many schools in Nigeria have Hardware? How many schools in Nigeria have the facilities to have those computers?. There is the additional problem of electricity and internet connectivity"

" What JAMB is doing is commendable because theirs is an admission test. It is a certification examination.

Charlse Eguridu said WAEC was using special gadgets in detecting examination malpractice as the device had ability to transmit any irregularity to its data base in Lagos.
